It also includes an ambulatory facility, research institute, educational facilities, and psychiatric care centers. While Parnassus is the oldest major hospital in the city, it doesn’t look that way. San Francisco is a sprawling city too big to explore in 13 weeks, which is why many travelers choose to extend at this location. Travelers have plenty to do outside of the hospital. Whether you like beautiful nature or prefer a night out on the town, SF has options for you. SF has the unique ability to feel like both a big city and the countryside. Just 45 minutes from the hospital lies Muir Woods National Monument, an epic old-growth redwood forest with trees that are 250 feet tall and over 14 feet wide. If walking with ancient giants isn’t your thing, you can check out Black Sand Beach, just north of the city; This spot tends to be less crowded than the Iconic Baker Beach, but the views are just as good. After working up a thirst, find your way to The Hideout, a speakeasy lounge just west of UCSF. This small bar has craft cocktails, vintage interior design and will have you feeling like a 1920s gangster. If you are looking for something more casual than a speakeasy, look up Golden Gate Tap Room; it’s just ten minutes away from Parnassus. This large brewing facility has over 100 beers on tap, table/video games, and tons of TVs to watch your favorite sports teams. However, if your drink of choice is warm, derived from roasted beans, and delightful at any hour of the day, you are in luck! San Francisco takes its craft coffee very seriously. There are more than 2,600 coffee shops and cafes in San Francisco. Within walking distance of Parnassus, you’ll find options ranging from classics like Peets and Starbucks to more bougie La Boulangerie de San Francisco. It is safe to say you will be well-caffeinated there.
All of this and more awaits in one of the best cities on the west coast. It’s a city that is changing quickly, so see it while it still retains some of its original charms!
P.S. Remember to pack warm layers because the San Francisco sunshine can be deceiving! While the famous fog has an endearing name and hilarious Twitter account, Karl The Fog is not one to be underestimated.
